Continued from Application Form
.....We will create opportunities to circulate zines to make a difference to services & to people’s lives. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, we will work through our local partner organisations to determine which services are willing to host our project, & which zines in our collections most suitable to share, given their unique challenges & issues. Between us, we have connections with a wide variety of statutory services & professional organisations many of whom have expressed an interest in hosting pop-up zine libraries in their services & premises during conferences, workshops & training events. We will accompany the zines & facilitate discussion, dialogue & mutual underst&ing - mirroring ‘being with’ people in distress, which is what most service users say they want from services.
We will select services we already have contact with, illustrating harms experienced by past/ current service-users (including ourselves) & continual stresses & harms experienced by service providers. We will highlight public examples, ie Mental Health Trusts currently undergoing inquiries (such as Greater Manchester; Essex, & Tees, Esk & Wear Valley) & collaborate with service-providers/leaders to identify & implement potential system changes. We will work alongside local campaigning groups like CHARM & Justice for Care (both in Greater Manchester) who already work with their Trust to raise awareness of issues facing service users & welcome the idea of using zines in this way.
